Sunrise from Church Street

- The historic First Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk Virginia is highlighted by the rising sun. The 1916 Second Renaissance Revival style church is a real architectural gem and is located off Henry Street just behind the Attucks Theater of the same period. This area was the center of the African American cultural community during the first half of the 20th Century and was often referred to as the "Harlem of the South." Canon G11, 1/1250 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400.

I love the glow of the sunlight through the windows at the top of the steeple! This is a beautiful capture!

I love this building too. Seen from your photo, you might think you were looking at some place more exotic than downtown Norfolk.

Happy new year to you!

Thanks Carolyn. It was that glow in the steeple that first caught my eye as I went by. Went around the block and came back to get this photo. Les, I think if we could have seen Church Street in its heyday, it would have been pretty exotic.
