A Story in Three - Day 64 #CY365

Today's challenge was to tell a story with three pictures. This has been a cold and gray winter making me long for the beach and warm weather. I created this story in three with the beach in mind from photos I made last year. The first photo is a Florida coast sunrise with a lone shore bird in the surf, the second is my grandson Robert enjoying the mid afternoon sunshine in Virginia Beach, and the final shot is a sunset of shore birds at the Boneyards in Encinitas California. This weekend's forecast is for sun and temperatures in the 60's, so I think a walk on the beach is just what the doctor ordered.

Footprints - Day 12 #cy365

Most of the footprints left on the beach today were from the seagulls. Canon 5D Mark II, 1/2000 sec @ f/4, ISO 100.

These near perfect footprints in the sand were washed aways seconds after I took this picture. Canon G15, 1/40 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Fetch

Dogs love the beach and will fetch the ball from the water tirelessly. I never get tired of watching them. Canon G15, 1/2000 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 200.

Two Great Castles

A great hotel like the del Coronado deserves a great sandcastle. Canon Powershot G15, 1/500 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200, fill-in flash used.

Frosty the Sandman

Of course any self respecting snowman in Virginia Beach Virginia is going to the beach. Canon 7D, 1/8 sec @ f/5.0, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Beach Boy

What's better than a handful of wet sand? Two handfuls! — Robert at Sandbridge Beach on a glorious late afternoon in September. Canon G1X, 1/1250 sec @ f/7.1, ISO 100.

Empty Beach

We headed out to Sandbridge Beach late this afternoon. With stormy weather moving in we found an almost empty beach. It was really relaxing with the wind, surf and rapidly changing sky. We stayed for about 30 minutes before lifeguards closed the beach because of the threat of lightning. iPhone 4 with the Olloclip fisheye lens.

Contrails

- 2012 started out with a beautiful day here in Virginia Beach, VA. This afternoon we went to Sandbridge Beach to take some photos. My wife Cindy is starting her own 365 scrapbook project for 2012 so I guess I'm starting project 365 number 4. Well here's a photo of contrails crisscrossing the clear blue sky for picture 1 of 365. I am making no promises to keep this up all year but right now it's kind of in my blood. iPhone 4, 1/200 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 80, Camera+ app, fisheye lens.

What a View

- This is the view of the Chesapeake Bay from the Coastal Living 2011 Ultimate Beach House in the East Beach neighborhood of Norfolk Virginia. It was a really cool house with lots of interesting features but the best was it's view and location on the beach in East Ocean View. Canon 1/1000 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400.

High Fly'n

- One of my eleven foot wing span delta kites. Seems whenever I'm at the beach I forget to bring the kite so I end up with a new one. Canon 40D, 1/250 sec @ f/7.1, ISO 200, zoom at 170mm focal length.

- This is picture from a few years ago of a tiny sand crab on Hatteras Island North Carolina that never made it to the CIOPhoto blog. Canon 40D, 1/1250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200, zoom at 400mm (the big gun).

The Narrows

The sun goes down at the Narrows in First Landing State Park, Virginia Beach Virginia. The Narrows is a thin connecting waterway between Broad Bay and Linkhorn Bay. It is part of the Lynnhaven River system. We enjoyed sitting in our beach chairs, feet in the water, watching the boats go by and sun go down. Canon G11, 1/500 sec @ f/7.1, ISO 100.

First Day at the Beach

It was a beautiful day in Virginia Beach so we made our first trip of the year to the beach at Sandbridge. There were lots of surfers but not much ridable surf but it was still a great day to just sit and talk. Canon G11, 1/500 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100.
