Full Sail Ahead

- Took my first trip on a sailboat while we were in Annapolis this weekend. Had a spectacular day, good wind and beautiful skies. This is looking up at the mainsail as we sailed towards the Chesapeake Bay from the mouth of the Severn River on the Schooner Woodwind. If you're ever in Annapolis, I'd highly recommend you checkout a trip on the Woodwind. The crew was great and we had a wonderful time. Canon G1X, 1/400 sec @ F/11.0, ISO 100.

291 - Redundant

From 365 Project
With the massive Great Bridge raised the "Stop - Draw Open" sign seemed a bit redundant. The bridge crosses the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal in Chesapeake Virginia which is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. It opens every hour and this afternoon about dozen yachts motored through the opening on their way south for the winter. Canon G10, 1/80 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

139 - Judy Lane

From 365 Project
The Judy Lane at the Hampton harbor in Hampton Virginia. While the harbor now houses many large yachts, sailboats and sport fisherman, it is still home to many of the boats of working waterman. The Judy Lane is a Chesapeake deadrise workboat, for over 100 years the craft of choice for local waterman tonging for oysters, pulling in crab pots or fishing nets. While the mountain of oyster shells that once marked Hampton's waterfront is gone, commercial fishing struggles to stay alive. Canon 40D, 1/125 sec at f/18.0, ISO 100, 70mm.
