Strawberry Bloom

- The patio strawberries are in full bloom. This variety is "June-bearing" and I should see some ripe berries by late May. Take a close look at this small bloom just to the left of center and notice the small unwelcome pest already at work. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/14.0, ISO 1600, 100mm macro lens taken at night with two LED Litepanels for illumination.

Caterpillar Rain

From 2010 Blog
- We had a nice short little rain shower this evening but it was probably not enough to make much difference in our dry summer. But this little caterpillar was oblivious to rain while he was munching away on my rosemary. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 1600, 100mm macro.

Doodlebug

From 2010 Blog
I caught this little beetle scrounging around in the center of one of the blooms of the Siloam Doodlebug daylily. I spot all kinds of insects in the daylily blooms. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 1600, 100mm macro.

Dragon Fly

From 2010 Blog
- Got this close up photo of a dragon fly at the beach today. His face has a kind of carton like appeal. Swedish folklore holds that the devil uses dragonflies to weigh people's souls - pretty heavy stuff. I think they are just valuable mosquito eaters. Canon 7D, 1/1250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 400, 100mm macro lens.

194 - Katydid - it

From 365 Project
This Katydid nymph was caught in the act of munching on one of my last Jersey Spider daylily blooms. Canon 40D, 1/250 sec @ f/22.0, ISO 400, 70mm macro, off-camera flash at 1/32 power.

166 - Lightning Bug

From 365 Project
Up close and personal with this lightning bug. They started appearing last week and I see more and more each night. I hope to get a long exposure with several glowing at once but I need to wait until there are more of them. Canon G10, 1/60 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 25mm equivalent focal length, on camera flash with flash compensation at -1 stop.
