Hall of Presidents

The Hall of Presidents at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom is a very moving and inspirational show and helps put the toughest job in the nation into perspective during these final two weeks of the election season. The peaceful transition of power is still rare in much of world even 215 years after George Washington became the first president to step aside. Canon G1X, 1/3 sec @ f/5.0, ISO 1600.

Pentakis Dodecahedron

Geometrically, Spaceship Earth at Epcot is a derivative of a pentakis dodecahedron. It is a Class 2 Frequency 16 Icosahedron, with each of the 60 isosceles triangle faces divided into 16 smaller equilateral triangles. Each of the 960 flat panels is sub-divided into four triangles, each of which is divided into three isosceles triangles to form each point. In theory, there are 11,520 total isosceles triangles forming 3840 points. In reality, some of those triangles are partially or fully nonexistent due to supports and doors of the iconic symbol of Epcot. Source - Wikipedia.

Vinylmation

Disney Vinylmation™ is a brand of vinyl collectibles sold at Disney theme parks. The name Vinylmation is a combination of the word Animation and Vinyl. The figures are all shaped like Mickey Mouse but have different themed markings, colors and patterns. Cuban Swoosh

No it's not an upside down Nike swoosh. This is part of the ceiling lighting detail at Bongos Cuban Cafe at Downtown Disney in Orlando Florida. Created by music superstar Gloria Estefan and her producer husband Emilio, this vibrant restaurant is a mosaic of colors and flavors. Canon G1X, 0.6 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 400.

Art Deco

- Had dinner tonight with a great group from the American Public Transportation Association TransITech Conference at Quinn's in the Central Park Hotel on Miami Beach. It was my first visit to Miami Beach and I must say I was impressed by the great Art Deco Style. Canon G11, 1/8 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 400 camera braced against a palm tree. The Monarch

From 2010 Blog
- The Monarch is the best known of all North American butterflies. This male is a great example of the species, large with bold orange and black coloring. They are unmistakable when spotted during the spring and late summer migrations. The monarch is the only butterfly that migrates both north and south just as birds do on a regular basis. However, no single individual makes the entire round trip. Canon 7D, 1/640 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 200mm focal length.

Exotic

From 2010 Blog
I saw this exotic bloom at Butterfly World in Florida but failed to note what it was. Usually I take a picture of the plant description plate right after taking the my photo but somehow I miss that step this time. The long white filaments with the yellow tips remind me of fiber optic cables. Canon 7D, 1/500 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200, 200mm focal length.

The Blimp - the Blimp!

From 2010 Blog
I went to take a picture of the Hillsboro Inlet lighthouse while we were Florida. Unfortunately you can't get to close to it since it's surrounded by a private club. So I set up across the inlet to take some shots when the Goodyear Blimp Spirit of America came cruising by. The blimps are based in nearby Pompano Beach. The gull and I enjoyed the show. Impatiens

From 2010 Blog
New Guinea impatiens were introduced in the U.S. in the 1970's and are a popular annual. They are often seen in planters and beds at many commercial establishments. These were in planters around the pool deck at the Westin Beach Resort in Ft. Lauderdale. I liked the color and slight luminescence of these blooms in the morning light. Pool Ball

From 2010 Blog
This beach ball was pushed across the pool by the breeze. I thought it would bring a nice warm feeling to a cold and wet March day. Canon G10, 1/2000 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 200.

At the Gate

From 2010 Blog
Waiting at the gate at the Jacksonville airport as reflected in the front element of the 70-200 zoom lens on my DSLR. JAX is a pretty cool airport, well as much as an airport can be cool. I'll probably share a few more shots I took using the gear combination captured in this photo in future posts. Canon G10, 1/80 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 400 in macro mode.

Pool Colors

From 2010 Blog
The South Florida sun and wind combined to create some interesting light patterns in the swimming pool. Of course this meant taking the risk of carrying the camera into the pool to get the picture. Picture captured, camera made it out high and dry. Canon G10, 1/1250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Butterfly World

From 2010 Blog
We visited "Butterfly World" in Coconut Creek, Florida today. It was pretty amazing to walk among so many beautiful butterflies, birds and plants. I took a lot of pictures including this one when I first entered the butterfly zone. I've posted a few more shots to this Picasa Web Album. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 200mm focal length.
