Costumed Apples

A couple of our apples dressed up as the Sorcerer's Apprentice and Minnie Mouse for Halloween. Canon 5D Mark II, 1/60 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens.

Hell's Demon Rat

This giant demon rat is part of the Halloween decorations at Hell's Kitchen on Granby Street in downtown Norfolk Virginia. I just couldn't resist taking his picture. I'm sure some followers of this blog will be happy after October 31st has come and gone. I have gotten a little carried away with the theme this month.

Canon G11, 1/6 sec sec @ f/4.5, ISO 800 handheld. Converted to black and white with a little focal color left in the eyes using Google's Picasa.

Cat House

Even the Lambert's Point feral cat colony house is getting in on Skull Week action. Fully decorated for Halloween and proudly displaying the skull and crossbones with the "Enter If You Dare!" message. The decorations went up a couple of weeks ago and initially included some fake crows. Unfortunately the residents didn't take too kindly to the black birds hanging around and finished 'em off pretty quickly.

Canon ELPH 110HS, 1/60 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 640 with a little fillin flash.

Hallowskull

Captured this skull at Target's Halloween display. There must have been a dozen different skulls to choose from, light up skulls, screaming skulls and plain creepy skulls. iPhone 5, 1/20 sec @ f/2.4, ISO 125, Camera+ app.

Skull Week

Yes it's "Skull Week" here on CIOPhoto.com. We start off with a dapper little skeleton from from the Halloween goodies display at Pier 1. So what do think the odds are that I can find seven different skulls to photograph this week? Stay tuned as I try to beat the odds. iPhone 4, 1/15 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 160, Camera + app.

This the Season

Getting into the spirit of America's second bigest holiday, Halloween. This spooky photo was taken at Norfolk Virginia's historic Elmwood Cemetery. Nothing says Halloween like a foggy graveyard. Canon G10, 1/125 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200 converted to black and white in Lightroom using Silver Efex Pro plugin.

Howl-O-Scream

My grandson Robert and I spent the day at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. It was all decked out for Howl-O-Scream 2012 and Robert quickly got into the spirt. Canon G11, 1/50 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400.

Don't Mess with the Law

- Robert wanted to be a police officer for Halloween this year, much to the dismay of his firefighter father. He met me at the door when I arrived home tonight and issued me a ticket. I had to pay my fine - one piece of candy. I really wanted to take him up to the Tide light rail for a little fare enforcement. He really got into being Officer Sullivan. Canon 7D, 1/15 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 800, 50mm prime lens.

Ghostly Greeter

- We added some Halloween "greeters" to foyer for my grandson Robert. This is the ghostly greeter. This might end up being my Facebook profile photo later in October. Canon 40D, 1/30 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 400, 100mm.

304 - ZooBoo!

From 365 Project
Tonight we paid a visit to ZooBoo! at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk with my grandson. These are some of the hundreds of originally carved Jack-O'-Lanterns that lined the pathways throughout the zoo. We took the haunted hayride, the scary train ride and treat-or-treated to the max. Canon 7D, 1/15 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 1600, 30mm prime lens.

303 - Ghostly

From 365 Project
It is rare that I change the photo of the day post but tonight is one of those times. I had just posted a picture when my brother called and told me about a house in the neighborhood with flying ghosts as part of their Halloween decorations. I grabbed my camera and tripod and went to take a look. These are the ghosts flying by. They had rigged up a moving line with three ghosts traveling across half of the yard. They were still setting up so ride by and check it out, 5700 block of Susquehanna Drive in Virginia Beach. Canon 40D, 1/2 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 30mm focal length.

302 - Bony Flag

From 365 Project
The Jack O' Lantern is the most common decoration for Halloween but the skeleton runs a close second. Skeletons are a universal Halloween icon and a symbol of everything scary! Both are part of our seasonal decorations. This is our decorative flag back lit by the front porch light. Canon 7D, 1/8 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 1600.

300 - BOO

From 365 Project
We are into the Halloween theme at our house this week. Cindy was wearing her glow in the dark "BOO" shirt today, so I had to see if I could capture the glowing "BOO" for today's post. From a camera's standpoint the glow is very faint light. Our eye's quickly adjust to pull the glow out of the darkness, but the camera is much more challenged by the very low light. Canon 7D, 1/20 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 1600.

299 - Jack-o'-lantern

From 365 Project
I spotted this rather evil looking jack-o'-lantern in a front yard along Warren Crescent in the old section of Ghent in Norfolk, Virginia. Massive old trees line the streets of this historic neighborhood. The neighborhood with its turn of the century Victorian mansions always makes for a good photo op. Canon 7D, 1/80 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 100.

279 - Spooky

From 365 Project
Halloween is coming up fast, so we brought down the decorations and they inspired this picture idea. Those three sets of eye balls blink in random patterns so it took a few tries to catch all three lit up at once. Canon Rebel XTi, 1/60 sec @ f/5.6, 50mm prime lens.
