The old saying goes "Red sky tonight, sailor 's delight." When we see a red sky at night, this means that the setting sun is sending its light through a high concentration of dust particles. I can certainly see why Van Gogh was so captivated by the Sunflower that he painted a series of sunflowers (tournesols in French) hoping to welcome and impress his friend and fellow painter Paul Gauguin.
