Coca-Cola Freestyle

- The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine features over 100 different Coca-Cola drink products and custom flavors. The machine allows users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products which are then individually dispensed. The cabinetry was designed by the Italian automotive design firm Pininfarina whose current automobile designs includes the amazing Ferrari 458 Italia. So I guess you could call this the "Ferrari" of drink machines. iPhone 4, 1/15 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 125, Camera+ app.

Llamella® Plate Settlers

- Got to take a tour of the Moores Bridges Water Treatment plant in Norfolk Virginia after visiting with Scott Howerin the rest of IT staff. These Llamella® plate settlers help with the sedimentation part of the water treatment process. The Moores Bridges water treatment plant was constructed in 1873 with a 1 million gallon a day capacity. Some of the original buildings are still located on the site which now has a capacity of 108 million gallons per day and supplies water to Norfolk, Virginia Beach, part of Chesapeake and most of the area's military bases. Cable Power

- Massive electric motors drive the cable winding machinery for the three San Francisco historic cable car routes. The Cable Car Barn & Powerhouse was built in 1879 and then mostly leveled by the 1906 earthquake. Rebuilt on the same site the powerhouse continues to pull the cable cars up and down the steep streets of the great city. More than 140 years later the cable technology is still fascinating to watch. The Cable Car Barn & Powerhouse also houses the Cable Car Museum where you can watch the system at work. Canon G11, 1/8 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 800, converted to black and white.

The Mighty ATM

- The automated teller machine or ATM to most Americans revolutionized banking beginning in the 1970's. One could now do banking transactions 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Prior to the advent of the ATM, bank branches closed early in the afternoon so tellers could reconcile their cash drawers and deposits before the end of the work day. The ATM changed customer service in banking as well as the livelihood of many bank employees. Will online banking, mobile devices and the debit card replace the need for cash and spell the end of the ATM? Most likely. Canon G11, 1/25 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 800.

Espresso?

- Can I interest you in an espresso? Well is not a "real" espresso but its pretty darn close for a home version. Made myself an espresso with my Nespresso machine tonight to enjoy with a little strawberry sorbet. Very nice. This picture was taken just before pushing the button to begin the magic. Resist Temptation

- Temptation is everywhere. This vending machine is luring you in with bright colors and promises of fat and lots of sodium. One way to resist, make a picture rather than cave in. Canon G11, 1/40 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400.
