Framed - Day 92 #CY365

The morning sun rises behind a thin layer of clouds silhouetting a still bare tree. The entire scene was reflected in the window of Fitness Together Norfolk and nicely "framed". Olympus OM-D E-M1, 1/2000 sec @ f/13, ISO 800.

A Story in Three - Day 64 #CY365

Today's challenge was to tell a story with three pictures. This has been a cold and gray winter making me long for the beach and warm weather. I created this story in three with the beach in mind from photos I made last year. The first photo is a Florida coast sunrise with a lone shore bird in the surf, the second is my grandson Robert enjoying the mid afternoon sunshine in Virginia Beach, and the final shot is a sunset of shore birds at the Boneyards in Encinitas California. This weekend's forecast is for sun and temperatures in the 60's, so I think a walk on the beach is just what the doctor ordered.

Sunrise

Always love catching the sunrise even when the setting is just a parking lot. That bird like shape in the lower center is actually a reflection from a car windshield and hood. iPhone 4, 1/1000 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 80.

Summer Sunrise

- The hot temperatures and still air resulted in a thick early morning haze but all of that atmosphere helped to produce a really awesome sunrise. Canon G1X, 1/2000 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

MLK Day

- The Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial early this morning in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr. King visited Norfolk and southeastern Virginia many time and was scheduled to come back to Norfolk in early April 1968 but postponed the visit to go to Memphis to support the sanitation workers strike. He was assassinated there on April 4, 1968. Check out the audio version of The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr. (1998), ed. Clayborne Carson. I highly recommend this version read by LeVar Burton in a Grammy Award winning performance which also contains recordings of many speeches and famous oratory of Dr. King. A must listen for anyone who is a student of leadership. Canon G11, 1/800 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 200.

Looking Down on Sunrise

- There is one good thing about an o-dark-thirty flight, you get to look down on sunrise from 35,000 feet. Canon G11, 1/60 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 800.

Fiber Sunrise

- Nice sunrise this morning, This photo shilouttes the fiber optic, legacy copper phone, and power lines that serve my house. My Internet comes in from the pole in the photograph on a hybrid fiber-coax network provided by Cox Communications. As you can tell, I can't resist sunrise and sunset photos and I appreciate your allowing me to subject you to a pretty steady stream of them on this blog. Canon 40D, 1/160 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Sunrise from Church Street

- The historic First Calvary Baptist Church in Norfolk Virginia is highlighted by the rising sun. The 1916 Second Renaissance Revival style church is a real architectural gem and is located off Henry Street just behind the Attucks Theater of the same period. This area was the center of the African American cultural community during the first half of the 20th Century and was often referred to as the "Harlem of the South." Canon G11, 1/1250 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400.

Winter Sunrise

- The sky over Norfolk Virginia lit up bright orange as the sun was rising around 7:00am this morning. When the sky looks like this - one must stop and take a picture. The problem for me this morning was finding a decent foreground before the colors were gone. The sky changes very rapidly, literally minute to minute, as the sun rises so there not much time to putter around looking for the best spot. This photo was captured standing along Granby Street just north of 18th Street. Canon G11, 1/800 @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Clouds

- This was a sunrise I captured back in the winter. The photo is way underexposed and nicely reveals the depth and texture of the early morning clouds. Canon 7D, 1/160 sec @ f/16.0, ISO 200.

Sunrise

- I participated in a sunrise photo shoot at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens this morning. We were set up in the Enchanted Storybook Forest section near the northeastern most part of the gardens. This is looking east towards the Little Creek Amphibious Base in Virginia Beach. Canon 7D, 1/250 sec @ f/16.0, ISO 200, mounted on a tripod.

Sunrise Flight

From 2010 Blog
- If you have to be up at sunrise like I did yesterday, might as well take a picture of it. The plane had just taken off from Norfolk at 5:30 on a short flight to New York's LaGuardia Airport. We broke through the cloud cover at about 5000 feet and sun was just coming up so I took this picture though a really nasty airplane window. Pretty happy with the result. Canon G11, 1/329 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 400.
