Serious Business

Santa's Catapult Launch

Santa launches off the deck of the USS Harry S. Truman at the Norfolk Botanical Garden's Garden of Lights display. Cindy and I took Robert through the garden's tonight after Thanksgiving dinner. Tis the Season

Holiday decorations are going up every where so the season is upon us. Captured this cheery holiday bauble at MacDonald's Gaarden Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. iPhone 5, 1/120 sec @ f/2.4, ISO 100, Camera+ App.

Rockettes

- The Rockettes are a Christmas mainstay as part of the Radio City Music Hall Christmas show. We saw them in 2009 and this ornament hanging on our tree is a reminder of that great show and the Christmas season in New York. Canon 40D, 1/125 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Mr. Fix-it

- Robert received his "Li'l Helper" tool kit including PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) from Grammy and Grandpa for Christmas. He immediately decided that something needed fixing so he went to work on the faucet in the shower. He looks just like Handy Manny. Canon PowerShot SD870 IS, 1/60 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 250 with flash.

Fisheye Santa

Baubles

- It's the time of year to break out the Christmas ornaments. A bauble is a spherical decoration that is commonly used to adorn Christmas trees. The bauble is one of the most popular Christmas ornament designs, and they have been in production since 1847. Glass baubles were first made in Lauscha, Germany, by Hans Greiner. - Miss Sasha is enjoying the holiday decorations. Canon 40D, 1/40 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Rhombicuboctahedron

- The Moravian star is generally a 26-point form, composed of eighteen square and eight triangular cone shaped points. This shape is technically known as a Great Stellated Rhombicuboctahedron. Each face of the geometric solid in the middle, the Rhombicuboctahedron, serves as the base for the "stellations" or starburst points. The Moravian star is a popular illuminated piece of Advent or Christmas decoration but was most likely first developed as a geometry lesson at a Moravian Boy's School in Germany. Sleigh Bell

- Added a few gold and silver jingle bells to the garland surrounding the front door. Not only goes it give it a cool look but the doorway now has that sleigh bell sound as you come and go. Canon 40D, 1/80 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Lighted Deer

- The lighted deer have arrived for another season at Grammy and Grandpa's house. Robert and Sherlock are delighted. Canon G11, 1/3 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 100, camera on a railing with 2 sec delay timer on the shutter.

Santa Delivers

- Santa delivers and Robert plays. The Lego jetliner is pretty cool and Robert is getting ready to push back from the gate. Santa and his elves at VBFD Station 2, C Shift out did themselves. Canon G11, 1/60, F2.8, ISO 160, flash.

Cookies for Santa

- Robert get cookies and milk ready for Santa before heading off to bed. His mommy and daddy are both working tonight so we got to enjoy a four year old's excitement on Christmas Eve. Canon 40D, 1/160 sec @ f/2.5, ISO 800, 50mm prime lens.

Christmas Eve Eve

- Christmas Eve Eve at the Sullivan's. Note all of the wrapped presents, it's so wonderful to be married to someone who is organized. Canon G11, 0.8 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 800 - man that's a lot of 8's.

Bows

- Cindy was busy wrapping away today and the box of bows caught my eye. Canon 7D, 1/250 sec @ ~f/2.8, ISO 800, Lensbaby, wide angle with star shaped aperture.

Holiday Bokeh

- Our Christmas tree lights captured out of focus. The out of focus lights are blurred into the shape of little Christmas trees by using an aperture disk I created with with one of Cindy's scrapbook punches. This effect in photography is known as bokeh and is usually seen in the soft out of focus backgrounds of photos taken with a large aperture opening on a normal lens producing a very shallow depth of field. Interchangeable aperture disks are one of the very cool creative features of the Lensbaby Composer that was used to make this photo. Canon 7D, 1/20 sec @ ~f/4.0, ISO 800.

Ornamental

- It's been a few days since I broke out the camera for some new pictures. It was wet, cold and just yucky outside so the camera ended up focused on the Christmas tree. Hope you enjoy the sights of the season. Canon 7D, 1/5 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens, mounted on a tripod.
