350 - First Lutheran

From 365 Project
The First Lutheran Church has been featured in my blog before on day "216 - Elvis Sighting". This photo of the classic Gothic Revival church was taken from the Maury Avenue side looking towards the front of the church. The bright afternoon sun nicely illuminates the wonderful stone work. Canon G10, 1/800 @ f/4.5, ISO 200.

344 - Chim Chiminey

From 365 Project
The red chimney and the stark primary colors of the sky and the house invoked memories of seeing the movie Mary Poppins many years ago. The bright yellow house is at the corner of Colley and Boissevain Avenues in Norfolk's Ghent neighborhood. Canon 7D, 1/800 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100.

326 - Candlelit Stairway

From 365 Project
Candles cast a dramatic light on this wonderful staircase in a great old house on Mowbray Arch in Norfolk's historic Ghent Neighborhood. Canon 7D, 1/25 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 1600.

314 - Spinning

From 365 Project
The fall colors had me spinning today. It was an overcast day and I was looking for a photo where I wouldn't have too much of a blah sky in the image. I saw this colorful tree off Westover Avenue in Norfolk's Ghent neighborhood and tried a camera rotation technique that I read about in a book by Bryan Peterson on understanding exposure. The camera is pointed up from under the tree and rotated during exposure. Canon G10, 1/4 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 200 with the camera's electronic neutral density filter enabled.

306 - 90 Points

From 365 Project
We went to the monthly wine dinner at one of our favorite restaurants tonight, the Green Onion on Colley Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. Tonight's theme was Spanish wines and foods. This is the Volver Tempranillo rated 90 points by Jay Miller of the Wine Advocate. It was served with a shrimp empanada, one of five courses from executive chief Kyle. Yum! Canon G10, 1/13 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800. If you look closely you will notice the noise in this low light high ISO image, the one glaring weakness of the otherwise spectacular Canon G10.

299 - Jack-o'-lantern

From 365 Project
I spotted this rather evil looking jack-o'-lantern in a front yard along Warren Crescent in the old section of Ghent in Norfolk, Virginia. Massive old trees line the streets of this historic neighborhood. The neighborhood with its turn of the century Victorian mansions always makes for a good photo op. Canon 7D, 1/80 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 100.

262 - Mirrored Marquee

From 365 Project
While waiting in line to buy tickets to see (500) Days of Summer tonight, I noticed this mirror like reflection of the Naro's marquee reflected in a parked car's side windows. Canon G10, 1/30 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400. BTW, the movie was great!

257 - Barbaresco

From 365 Project
This is the Produtorri Barbaresco (2005), produced using the Nebbiolo grape from Italy, being poured for about 20 lucky people. This wine was served with the fourth course of Petite Filet of an exquisite wine diner we attended at the Green Onion restaurant on Colley Avenue in Norfolk Virginia tonight. The entire dinner featured a variety of Italian wines perfectly paired with each course. Canon G10, 1/6 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800.

The Naro Expanded Cinema is Hampton Roads Virginia's art house and revival theater, catering to local audiences interested in independent, foreign and limited release features since 1977. The Art Deco style theater was built in 1936 and originally opened as the Colley Theater. Located on Colley Avenue in Norfolk's Ghent neighborhood, the theater has been home to the area's regular screenings of the The Rocky Horror Picture Show for 30+ years. Canon G10, 1/50 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 400.

216 - Elvis Sighting

From 365 Project
I was taking a few night photos of the First Lutheran Church of Norfolk located on Colley Avenue in the historic Ghent neighborhood. The church is a beautiful Gothic Revival structure dedicated in 1930. While I was taking pictures, someone said, "Come stand here and you can see Elvis." Sure enough, illuminated in the a small section of the front stained glass window is a image of what looks to be Elvis. Certainly not what I expected to photograph on a walk after dinner. Canon G10, 1/15 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 1600 54mm equivalent focal length - hand held.

205 - Do-Nut Dinette

From 365 Project
The Do-Nut Dinette has been a fixture on Norfolk's Colley Avenue since 1952 and has always been strictly counter service. They make their own donuts and feature a pale green 1960's vintage Formica interior. The bright yellow umbrellas and sidewalk dining are recent additions but it still has the retro diner feel. Canon 40D, 1/250 sec @ F/22.0, ISO 800 (I forgot to set the ISO back to 200), 17mm focal length.
