Big Fish

- This fish was in a large aquarium at the Virginia Wesleyan student center and the front glass reflection makes it look like the fish swallowed a whole line of people. The people were lined up at the 14th Annual Empty Bowls Charity Dinner. iPhone 4, 1/15 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 1000.

Reflected Sunset

- The mirrored glass on the Gateway Credit Union building in Virginia Beach catches the setting sun. I seem to always catch this stop light red on the exit ramp from I264 East on my commute home each evening but at least it gave me a chance to capture this interesting reflection. Canon G11, 1/250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 400.

Indirect Light

- This picture features indirect lighting. The sun is coming up in the east behind the Norfolk Southern Building, the tall one in green glass and hitting directly on the Bank of America Building which is brightly reflected in the green glass. It also produces nice silhouettes of a tree on the right and the Norfolk Confederate monument with "Johnny Reb" standing on top to the left side of the frame. The scene is located in downtown Norfolk, Virginia. iPhone 4, 1/250 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 80, Camera+ App, Clarity Scene, Freeform Crop, and Vibrant EX Effect.

Renaissance Lion

- This lion is one of eight that are part of the Renaissance Court and Garden at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens. They guard the reflecting pool and fountain. Modeled along the classic lines of the Italian Renaissance of the late 16th century, this area features all of the trademarks of that period. Canon 7D, 1/5 sec @ f/32.0, ISO 100 mounted on a tripod.

Reflected Power

- Yep, its a power pole reflected in the back window of van stopped in front of me. Not much else to say about this one. Canon G11, 1/100 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Stainless

- This stainless steel panel is located on the front of the Dog 'n' Burger on Manteo Avenue in Norfolk Virginia. Today's sunshine and blue sky help to make this reflective photo interesting. I bet most people just walk by the little architectural detail without a second glance. Canon G11, 1/400 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 100.

Big Splash

- Robert had a great time playing in the water today. Two hot tub sessions and one with the crazy squiggly sprinkler. I bet he sleeps good tonight, I know I will. Canon 40D, 1/2000 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 400, 100mm lens.

Ornamentation

- This great art deco locomotive style hood ornament was just one of many cool details in a display of old cars at the Virginia Beach Farmers Market today. A hood ornament symbolized a car company like a badge. Located on the front center portion of the hood they have been used as an adornment since almost the inception of automobiles. Canon G11, 1/160 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 200, in macro mode.

Table Set

- More salt and pepper shakers and some cool reflections in the table light. Canon G11, 1/3 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200 in macro mode.

Other Times

- On the way out to work this morning the car was wet from an earlier rain, so the beads of water caught my eye. But when I looked at the preview screen of the camera the tree reflected on the roof jumped out. The camera often records light and images much differently than our eyes see them. Sometimes this is very frustrating to the photographer who's trying to accurately capture a scene, other times it's just cool. This was one of the other times. Canon G11, 1/10 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200.

Back in the Box

- There goes the holidays back into the box and into the attic until next year. It always makes me sad to see them go. Canon G11, 1/80 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 400 in macro mode.

Liquid Buildings

- The buildings reflected in this picture look almost liquid. From left to right, the Chicago Apparel Center, Riverbend Condos, and Left Bank at K Station all reflected in the great blue-green curve of glass that is the northwest wall of 333 Wacker Drive. The 333 building is one of my favorites in Chicago as it truly embraces the unique site where the Chicago River splits into its Northern and Southern Branches. Canon 7D, 1/100 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Donald's Glow

- Two Chicago architectural landmarks, the London Guarantee Building, 360 North Michigan and the Mather Tower, 75 East Wacker are dappled in morning sunlight reflected by the new Trump Tower just across the river. The Beaux-Arts 360 North Michigan is topped with a small Greco-Roman temple, while the Neo-Gothic Mather Tower at only 65 feet wide is Chicago's thinest skyscraper. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/9.0, ISO 100, 28mm focal length.

Lotus Reflection

From 2010 Blog
- A Lotus blossom reflects in the pond water at the Pagoda Gardens in downtown Norfolk Virginia. Canon 40D, 1/640 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200, 200mm focal length.

Love Chrome

From 2010 Blog
- The chrome front bumper of a 55 Chevy reflects the 57 Eldorado Seville parked next to it. Fins and chrome and lots of it were the style trademarks of the mid 1950's Detroit automobiles. The massive chrome bumpers were gone forever in the mid 1970's after the U.S. 5-mph bumper standard took effect. Canon 7D, 1/400 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 200, 100mm focal length.

Mustang!

From 2010 Blog
- I went to a car show this afternoon at the Fairfield Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. They had a real nice collection of hot rods, restored 50's, 60's and 70's muscle cars but it is the Ford Mustangs that I gravitate to. My very first new car was a 1973 Ford Mustang Mach I, 351 Cleveland V-8, dark green metallic with saddle tan interior. I bought it at the end of the model year when the new smaller Mustang II's (yuk) were just coming out. Got a great deal and never regretted buying a gas gussler during the 1973 oil crisis. This front grill emblem was on a slick 2005 dark gray Mustang GT. Canon G11, 1/500 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 200.

Yellow Wheel

From 2010 Blog
- This 2001 Yellow Corvette is reflected in the chrome rims of blue F150 pickup. Both were fully polished and shinning for all they were worth as they were parked just outside Firehouse Subs in the Kempsville section of Virginia Beach today. I was surprised to learn the Vette belonged to Virginia Beach Fire Captain Bill Bailey who I hadn't seen in a long time. Small world. Canon G11, 1/320 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 200.
