247 - Buttons

From 365 Project
~BUTTONS~

In a bag full of buttons
I'm that tiny unique one.....

Odd in size and color
Holes as round as the sun.....

I may not shine or sparkle
Or even catch most eyes.....

I may not match one's attire
Nor compare to all those flies.....

Though, I may not have a matching set
I've learned to stand alone.....

When it comes to wearing the britches
I surely can hold my own.

A poem with meaning by 4 Sugar Bear

Canon G10, 1/4 sec @ f/3.2, ISO 400, 50mm equivalent focal length in macro mode.

231 - World Photography Day!

From 365 Project
Today is World Photography Day, yea! Thanks to @Pleyades for the heads-up tweet this morning. Photographer's love their gear and I'm a real gear geek. So I took this photo of my favorite rig, the Canon 40D with an 85mm, F1.8 prime lens. Even though we love our gear, a photographer's #1 pet peeve is when someone looks at one of their pictures and says, "wow that's a great photo, you must have a really nice camera." While gear is important, a good photographer can make a great picture with a cell phone camera. Canon Rebel XTi (400D) 1/250 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 200, 50mm macro lens. The subject was in a light tent and illuminated with two strobes.

203 - A Big Double Hex

From 365 Project
This is a big (3-1/8") double-hexagonal socket. It weighs about 5 pounds. Certainly it's made to tackle a big nut. Thanks to Rickey at the HRT gas shop for letting me take some photos of his tools. Professional mechanics provide their own tools. They have large mobile tool boxes with thousands of dollars of their own money invested to get their work done - kind of like photographers. Canon 40D, 1/60 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 800, 50mm lens.

192 - Pinstripe Suit

From 365 Project
Got a new pinstripe suit today. The pinstripe suit is always appropriate executive attire. This suit is for my trusty sharpie marker. Sherpa is making stylish skins for the ever popular sharpie permanent markers. Now your sharpie can head to the boardroom or just be super cool. Today I visited one of my favorite local stores and Internet pen retailer A Pen Lovers Paradise. Check them out and get a cool skin for your sharpie. Canon 40D, 6 secs @ f/8.0, 85mm with Canon macro life-size adapter and a tripod.

191 - Chess Anyone?

From 365 Project
This glass chess set is lit by three tea light candles. I am reading "Macro Photography Photo Workshop" by Haje Jan Kamps and he suggested practicing macro photography with candlelight. He features a similar photo in the book. I took numerous shots, moving the candles around, changing the aperture slightly, and adjusting the exposure compensation to remove blown highlights. I liked this shot the best. Canon 40D, 1/8 sec @f/2.8, ISO 100, 85mm prime lens with Canon life size adapter. I used a tripod and shutter release cord.

181 - Don't take my Kodachrome away

From 365 Project
They didn't listen to Paul Simon! Last week Kodak announced it was ending the production of Kodachrome transparency (slide) film after 74 years. Remember all of those great National Geographic photos you loved - Kodachrome. I have hundreds of slides I took using this great film and my trusty Olympus OM2 which I got 32 years ago. So I picked some of the last Kodachrome and will be shooting it with the OM2 over the next few months. I'm sure some photos will make it to the blog, although somewhat delayed since it takes about a month to send it away to only processor left. Canon G10, 1/60 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200, macro mode with a three light setup, two strobes and a Litepanel Micro.

157 - Melt in Your Mouth

From 365 Project
Not in Your Hands! Colorful M&M's seemed like thing to do on a rainy and overcast Saturday. Did you know they come in many unusual colors? Check out this photo from my trip to M&M Store in Times Square last year. Canon 40D, 1/5 sec @ f/9.0, ISO 200, 50mm compact macro lens.

144 - Cool and Refreshing

From 365 Project
Summer is here, so I thought a photo that made you feel cool and refreshed was in order. This orange slice in sparking water creates just that feeling. Canon 40D, 50mm compact macro, 1/250 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 100. A little bright sunlight and some help from a reflector. Thanks Bryan Peterson for the creative macro lesson.

130 - Natural

From 365 Project
With two die in play, seven is the most common combination. The probability that a seven comes come up is one out of six with fair dice. Thus the role is know as a "natural". Canon 40D, 1/60 sec at f/7.1, ISO 800, 50mm.

124 - Eye to Eye

From 365 Project
One digital eye looks deeply into another and finds nothing. This dark soulless eye belongs to a video conference camera. Canon G10, 1/6 sec at f/3.2, ISO 800, 18mm equivalent focal length. Image stabilization and macro focus mode made this image possible, of course the steady hands of the skillful photographer player a role too.
