Pool Ball

From 2010 Blog
This beach ball was pushed across the pool by the breeze. I thought it would bring a nice warm feeling to a cold and wet March day. Canon G10, 1/2000 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 200.

Pool Colors

From 2010 Blog
The South Florida sun and wind combined to create some interesting light patterns in the swimming pool. Of course this meant taking the risk of carrying the camera into the pool to get the picture. Picture captured, camera made it out high and dry. Canon G10, 1/1250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

Jellies

From 2010 Blog
Tonight we had dinner at Steak 954 in the W hotel. They have a long aquarium wall with nothing but jelly fish swimming in it separating the dining area from the lobby. Watching the jellies during dinner was mesmerizing and relaxing. I'm afraid I let my followers down by not having a decent camera with me to capture this interesting scene. So out comes the camera phone because any picture is better than no picture, right? Blackberry 9530 (Storm 1) with no flash. The image needed a little help in post production from Noise Ninja 2 and Picasa.

Ripples

From 2010 Blog
Ripples radiate out from the corner of this man made pond at the entrance of the Nauticus National Maritime Center in Norfolk Virginia. Canon 7D, 1/125 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100.

328 - Droplets

From 365 Project
The weather today was quite dreary. A very fine mist of rain fell all day long. This is an extreme close up of a nice light green plant in an outside landscape bed in Hampton Virginia. Unfortunately I don't know name of plant. You can see the tiny water droplets formed by the fine mist. At first it looked like ice on the plant but the macro lens nicely captured the droplets. Canon 7D, 1/250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100, 50mm compact macro with off camera flash at 1/64th power.

320 - XX Fountain

From 365 Project
Pool and fountain in front of the Exxon Building at 1251 6th Avenue (a.k.a. Avenue of the Americas) and 50th Street in New York City. I tilted the camera to mimic the double "X" in the Exxon logo. This building is part of the Rockefeller Center complex and was built in 1971. IMHO - it doesn't even come close the architectural master piece that is the original Art Deco styled tower. Canon 7D, 1/1600 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 100.

269 - Onancock

From 365 Project
We paid a visit to Onancock on Virginia's Eastern Shore today. The name, Onancock, is derived from the Indian word "auwannaku" meaning foggy place. The little town near the Chesapeake Bay dates to 1680. We had a nice lunch at Mallard's on the Wharf where this picture of the small harbor was taken. Canon G10, 1/2000 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 200.

221 - Skimming

From Skimming
The tide was way out and the waves small, smooth and breaking close to shore, not too good for surfers, but perfect for skimmers. Unlike surfing, skimboarding begins on the beach, with the skimboarder running and dropping their board onto the thin wash of waves. They use their momentum to 'skim' out to breaking waves, which they then catch back into shore in a manner similar to surfing. Several skimboarders were having a great time in the early evening surf as this photo demonstrates. Check out more of the fun from today's trip to Sandbridge Beach. Canon 40D, 1/800 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200, 100-400 zoom at 235mm focal length.

214 - Wave Break

From 365 Project
The waves were breaking from right to left today after some late afternoon showers. We weren't sure if we we were going to get our Sunday evening trip to the beach in, but the rain stopped and we had the beach almost to ourselves. I was experimenting with the selective focus of the Lensbaby Composer. Canon 40D, 1/500 sec @ f2.8, ISO 200.

209 - Water Droplet

From 365 Project
Back in May I saw a blog post and video on Strobist.com about taking water droplet photos using a single flash. Well I finally got around to setting it up tonight. There were so many amazing images I had a hard time choosing one for the picture of the day. This image's psychedelic lighting comes from bouncing the flash off a holographic patterned gift bag. I rather liked the effect, I hope you enjoy it as well. Canon 40D, 1/250 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 100, 50mm compact macro lens, off camera strobe at 1/16 power - creating a 1/11,000th of second light burst.

123 - Tweet Up

From 365 Project
Took part in the Hampton Roads Tweetup Photowalk in Olde Town Portsmouth Virginia today. Follow @HRVAphotowalk on Twitter for updates. We got thoroughly wet by a sudden rain shower but the puddle produced today's photo. Canon 40D, 1/320 sec at f/7.1, ISO 200, 55mm focal length.

93 - Fountainhead

From 365 Project
Aeration fountains are fairly common sights around suburban parking lots. Back lit by the late afternoon sun this one caught my eye. Canon G10, 1/2500s at f/8.0, ISO 200, 72mm effective focal length, -2 stops exposure adjustment.

80 - Tower Drape

From 365 Project
A water tower casts its shadow against the huge drape that is covering it during a repainting. Canon 40D, 1/125s at f/13.0, ISO 125, Canon 70-200 f/4.0 IS zoom at 70mm with a polarizer.
