111 - Sad Day

From 365 Project
Today's post pays tribute to our cocker spaniel Denny who passed away tonight. He was one of my favorite models and always put up with my camera constantly pointed in his direction. Denny was a rescue dog who quickly won a spot in our hearts when we adopted him five years ago. We spoiled him rotten and he returned unconditional love and loyalty.

110 - Tonkinese Temptress

From 365 Project
Never was much of a "cat person" until I met this little lady, Sable. As the Cat Fanciers' Association puts it ". . . the Tonkinese is an intelligent, gregarious cat with a sense of humor. Their affectionate ways are impossible to ignore, and they quickly endear themselves to family and visitors." Canon G10, 1/20 sec at f/2.8, ISO 800 in macro (close focus mode).

109 - Starburst Sconce

From 365 Project
Lighting can create a mood and provide a point of interest in a room. This wall sconce at the Nawab Indian Cuisine Restaurant in Newport News, Virginia does both. Canon G10, 1/15 sec at f/2.8, ISO 200, 11mm focal length.

108 - The Look

From 365 Project
This female Canada Goose was sitting on her nest just off the bank of Kemps Landing in Virginia Beach. I didn't see her at first until I got too close and she hissed at me. She never took her eyes off me. Canon 40D, 1/200 sec at f/9.0, ISO 400, Canon 100-400 zoom with 1.4x extender yielding a 560mm telephoto shot supported by a monopod.

107 - Red Rose

From 365 Project
The rose has always been valued for its beauty and has a long history of symbolism. The ancient Greeks and Romans identified the rose with their goddesses of love referred to as Aphrodite and Venus. Canon 40D, 1/1000sec at f/2.5, 50mm Canon Compact Macro.

106 - Peeling Paint

From 365 Project
The random nature of the paint peeling against the symmetrical pattern created by the underlying bricks caught my eye. This brick wall is over 100 years old and has obviously had more than a few coats of paint. But it will have no more paint as the building is scheduled for demolition later this year. Canon G10, 1/20sec at f/3.5, ISO 400. Converted to black and white using Silver Efex Pro.

105 - Crystal Votive

From 365 Project
Votive candles are small candles, originally intended to be burnt as a votive offering in a religious ceremony. This crystal votive holder was on our restaurant table where they have now become commonplace. Canon G10, ISO 200, 1/13sec at f/3.5, 22mm equivalent focal length in macro mode. Fired using the self timer to avoid camera shake.
