Lipstick Day

Guess what; today is National Lipstick Day. Who would have thought? To celebrate I decided to do a lipstick photo for the blog. While taking the pictures Miss Sasha decided to come investigate. Being the diva she is, the lipstick looked intriguing and thus here's today's photo of the day. Canon 5D Mark II, 1/5 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

You Like Tomato and I Like Tomahto

- As Louis Armstrong would sing - "You like tomato and I like tomahto." The tomatoes or tomahtos, take your pick, are in season. Nothing like a fresh vine ripe tomato, or tomahto, for a taste of summer. Canon 7D, 1/40 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 800, 100mm macro.

Coca-Cola Freestyle

- The Coca-Cola Freestyle machine features over 100 different Coca-Cola drink products and custom flavors. The machine allows users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products which are then individually dispensed. The cabinetry was designed by the Italian automotive design firm Pininfarina whose current automobile designs includes the amazing Ferrari 458 Italia. So I guess you could call this the "Ferrari" of drink machines. iPhone 4, 1/15 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 125, Camera+ app.

It's a Knockout

- In the past few days the Knockout roses have exploded with new blooms. It's pretty hard to beat the beauty of a single red rose. Canon 5D Mark II, 1/500 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 800, 105mm, light from a single LED Litepanel.

For My Valentine

- Nothing says "Be My Valentine" like a red rose. Red roses are the traditional symbol for love and romance. In Greek and Roman mythology the red rose was closely tied to the goddess of love. The red rose says you have my love and fidelity. Happy Valentine Day to my love.
Canon 7D, 1/200 sec @ f/5.0, ISO 800, 100mm macro, tungsten hand held video light for illumination.

Shadow Can

- Clear skies and strong afternoon sun helps to create a well defined shadow of this street trash can. A little playing around with a new effect called "neon" in Picasa 3.9 results in a unique image. It kind of follows the "Paint the Town Red" concept Norfolk had going this past October. This trash can is at the northwest corner of Granby and Freemason Streets in Norfolk, Virginia. Canon G11, 1/320 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

I Believe You Have My Stapler

- Yes I do. This is a Swingline Limited Edition Series 747 Rio Red Business Stapler a much appreciated going away gift from Philip Shucet. If you don't understand the significance of the Red Swingline Stapler, just watch the movie Office Space or if you need instant gratification turn to the Net at www.redswinglinestapler.com. Canon 40D, 1/100 sec @ f/7.1, ISO 800, two LED Litepanels with a little fill flash.

Baubles

- It's the time of year to break out the Christmas ornaments. A bauble is a spherical decoration that is commonly used to adorn Christmas trees. The bauble is one of the most popular Christmas ornament designs, and they have been in production since 1847. Glass baubles were first made in Lauscha, Germany, by Hans Greiner. Canon 40D, 1/13 sec @ f/2.8, ISO 800, 100mm macro with image stablization.

RED

- DISCLAIMER - I did not make this photo but I liked it so much that I wanted to share it on the blog. This is a photo of me taken this past Saturday at the Stockley Gardens Art Festival in Norfolk Virginia by Paint the Town Red - Norfolk. Paint the town Red - Norfolk is a promotion of the Virginia Stage Company's production of the play RED about Russian born American painter Mark Rothko and the Chrysler's Museum's exhibit "Mark Rothko: Perceptions of Being".

Redundant

This seems to be just a wee bit redundant to me. Canon G11, 1/13 sec @ f/3.5, ISO 800.

Red Delicious

- Some hotel room still life for today's photo of the day. The Red Delicious sure is a pretty apple although its not my favorite for eating. Canon G11, 1/3 sec @ f/5.6, ISO 400 in macro mode. Use a drink bottle for camera support along with the 2 second delayed shutter release.

Red, White and Blue

- Fourth of July calls for cookouts and a pool party. We had both at my son Brian's house this afternoon. Click on the pool party link to see more pictures of a splashing good time. Thanks to Cindy for being such a good foot model. Canon 7D, 1/5000 sec @ f/4.5, ISO 200 zoom at 135mm.

- These cool glass blocks pick up the red brick wall behind. Look at the differing patterns in each block. Canon 40D, 1/250 sec @ f/6.3, ISO 800, 100mm macro lens.

Buds

- The Knockout Roses I planted in the Fall of '09 are really doing well this Spring. I was a little worried in January and February as the harsh cold seemed to be doing them in. But they bounced back great with more blooms than ever. Canon 40D, 1/320 sec @ f/4.0, ISO 400, 100mm macro late afternoon shade helped out a bit by the LED Litepanel.

Left Behind

- This lone shopping cart was left behind all by itself in the parking lot. After taking the picture, I returned it to the safety of the cart rack. Hopefully the guy with the "cart pusher" will retrieve it before closing tonight. Being the guy who gets to operate the remote control cart pusher is my long term career goal. . . ah someday. Canon G11, 1/640 sec @ f/8.0, ISO 200.

The Red Tip

The red tip Photinia earns its name in the spring when the new growth appears as bright red leaves against the deep green of the older growth. This is from the one red tip left in my yard. For years we had a red tip hedge down one side of the yard which has now been replaced by the daylily bed. I don't miss that hedge which required a lot of work. The plant is better suited for larger open areas. Canon 40D, 1/60 sec @ f/11.0, ISO 800, 100mm lens.
